Resumen

A level by level sampling of two sections located near Alicante (Internal Prebetic Domain, SE Spain) has yielded an ammonite rich assemblages which have enabled to establish a precise biostratigraphy for the Upper Hauterivian - basal Aptian interval. A stratigraphic discontinuity\ embracing the uppermost Hauterivian (upper part of the Balearis Zone and the Ohmi Zone) and the lower part of the Barremian (Hugii, Nicklesi and Pulchella Zones) has been detected. The rest of the Lower Barremian standard zones (Compressissima and Darsi Zones) are present but show reduced thickness. In contrast, the Upper Barremian (Vandenheckii, Sartousiana, Feraudianus, Giraudi, Sarasini and Waagenoides Zones) and the lowermost Aptian (Oglanlensis Zone) are well developed. Some palaeogeographic implications are also discussed.
