Abstract

In this text, it is about the modernity and current thinking of Hobbes. The importance of his work does not lie in its contractualism, which founds the republic, nor in conceiving the sovereign as absolute and unrestricted. What is relevante is, first, that Hobbes designs in an innovative way –the people as an artificial person- an intermediate step between the facts, the majority or public opinion of a society, and the absolute sovereign, who necessarily builds as a factical power in order to consider it unlimited. Secondly, Hobbes defends that the power of that sovereign lies in the power of the crowd.
