Resumen

Summary: A study carried out in the Ambulatory Surgical Unit of the Virgen de las Nieves Hospital (Granada) to evaluate the results of carpal tunnel decompression with mini-approach surgery. Objectives: To describe the treatment and results of a series of cases of carpal tunnel decompression using mini-approach. Material and Methods: A series of 84 cases were collected, with a mean age of 48.94 years, from April 2000 to December 2004. !e maximum period of follow-up was 65 months. Preoperative and postoperative assessment was made of the clinical and functional status of patients. Results: The results obtained after a mean follow-up of 28.04 months were: for clinical assessment, 57 excellent results, 14 good, 5 fair and 8 bad; for functional assessment, 58 excellent, 14 good, 8 fair and 4 bad. Preoperative and postoperative scores obtained by statistical tests were compared. Highly statistically significant results were obtained for both clinical and functional improvement. Conclusions: Carpal tunnel decompression using the described technique offers a high success rate and a signi"cant decrease in complications.
