Resum

Tourism is a key sector for development, prosperity and well-being. Among the different types of existing tourism, ecotourism refers to those trips that have the purpose of performing recreational activities in direct contact with nature and local culture, with favorable attitudes to know, respect, enjoy and participate in the conservation of resources natural and cultural destinations. The objective of this research is to analyze the relationship between the ecotourism knowledge of tourists and their attitude toward ecotourism activity. The research methodology has consisted of a quantitative fieldwork, which has been carried out in six natural zones of Quintana Roo, where in recent years there has been an increase in visits of protected areas. The natural areas selected for field work are a fundamental factor in the new tourism strategies aimed at diversifying the offer of Cancun, one of the main destinations in the Caribbean. Among the main results, it has been found that ecotourists show a high knowledge about ecotourism and positive skills towards ecotourism activity in natural areas. Also, it has proven that there is a positive relationship between knowledge about ecotourism and attitudes toward ecotourism. Based on the results obtained, and as future lines of research, it is proposed to determine to what extent the knowledge and attitudes towards ecotourism that tourists have influence the development of interaction with residents.
