Abstract

Reading texts is not a passive process, there must be an interaction between text and reader for reaching to its whole understanding. It will allow us to set a relationship between our own experience and the text itself and interpret its meaning. This process will make us search for explanations and meanings. The understanding of a text implies the creation of meanings. To reach this process of relation we have to speak about linguistic competence. Understanding the linguistic structures will facilitate the capacity of inferring meanings. Dealing with texts in English, pupils will have to decode the linguistic peculiarities of the texts in order to its understanding. Among these peculiarities we have to emphasize a series of elements which constitute the text. Their identification will facilitate its whole understanding.
