Abstract

Geosendero de la pizarrilla (Baños de la Encina, Jaén), is a peri-urban georute for geology interpretation which was designed in 2010. It is a pioneering geo-rute in showing the geodiversity (lithologies, soils, geomorphology and landscape variability) of the outer parts of the village. Inhabitants of Baños and cultural tourists will be the most usual visitors of the geo-route. The interpretation panels stress the relations between geological heritage and social and cultural heritage: ornamental stones, mining, groundwater use and soil use and management (mainly focused on soil loss and sustainable use of the soil). The project of peri-urban geo-routes integrates the objectives of geology divulgation and social development. The social development is focused on the restoration of mostly derelict outer parts of the towns and villages, and on offering a new touristic alternative which links cultural and natural heritage.
