Abstract

The international importance of Arabic calligraphy in the Andalusian and international heritage, artistic, historical and social context is unquestionable, forming a specific discipline within artistic expression. The present work in the form of a Doctoral Thesis includes a study on the practice, tradition and actuality of contemporary Arabic calligraphy and its projection under the influence of modernity, the hurufiyya, forming the central object of the study. For this, its origin, context and way of being have been analyzed, presenting a historical journey and the circumstances that affect its development. With his study it is intended to deepen his knowledge and show this discipline as another reference for artists, artisans and designers.
