Zusammenfassung
The High Middle Ages is a time of fervent religious context, especially noticeable in the so-called universal chronicles, in accordance with the idea that God governs human life. This providential and popular vision of God is that of a Supreme Judge who rewards and punishes man for his actions. God speaks through the events that must be interpreted in a religious key. In this work we will review the works of Theophanes the Confessor and the Patriarch Nicephorus, dwelling on their ideological conceptions and their common points, analyzing especially the popular and providentialist reading of the events that they present to us.
