Resumo

The design of energy efficient buildings is necessary for the mitigation of their environmental effects. but also to adapt them to climate change. Since the use of climate zones is one of the tools used in the design of energy efficient buildings, and in view of the expected environmental changes, this study has analyzed the dynamics of changes of peninsular Spain climate zoning, as well as its effects on energy demand. The results have shown that. at present, buildings are designed and built according to an obsolete climatic classification which does not take into account the current or future climatic reality. Furthermore, although there is a trend towards a decrease in the overall energy demand, the expected increase in temperatures will imply a higher energy demand far cooling and a decrease in the case of heating. All of the above highlights the need to adapt climate zones to the expected change.
