Abstract

Infection in prosthetic surgery is one of the most important complications and can lead to the appearance of serious complications for the patient. Its incidence is 2-3% in primary prostheses and double that in revision surgeries, and percentages can be higher than 15% with the use of constrained or hinged implants. The culture of the tissues around the prosthesis is essential to know the pathogen causing the infection and, subsequently, to start treatment. Suspicion from Primary Care is of vital importance in order to avoid subsequent complications.
