Resumen
Since ancient times the society has maintained a close connection with the fungi. More recently, their economic use is gaining importance in rural development. Therefore, the main objective of the present communication is to show a global vision on the role of macrofungi in society, and as these can have favorable repercussions in the rural spaces. Therefore, we have analyzed the most recent statistical sources on the consumption and the cultivation of macromycetes, and the main researchs on the socio‐economic and environmental repercussions derived from their use have been consulted.
