Abstract

In this work, the karyotype of two species of Narcissus, of the endemic monotypic Spanish genus Lapiedra, and the meiotic behaviour and karyotype of eigth species of Allium are studied. The karyotype of Narcissus hedraeanthus (Webb & Heldr.) Colmeiro (2n = 14), and the existence of a tetraploid level in Allium flavum L. are re-ported for the first time. A detailed confirmation of the karyotype of Narcissus cuatre-casasii Fernández Casas, Laínz & Ruiz Rejón (2n = 14) is made, and the karyotype of the tetraploíd form of Allium subhirsutum L. (2n = 28) is stablished. The original chro-mosome number of Allium and the nature of the polyploidy in this genus are discused.
