Abstract
The peculiarity of its historical evolution, the constraints of the natural environment, and the specific lifestyles in the district of Guadixlocally known as Accitania, in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula, are reflected in the urban morphology and the unique architectural elements present in its towns and cities. The overlapping of settlements from successive cultures, the use of construction materials conditioned by the natural environment, and the ethnographic uses have created cultural systems, an architectural heritage, and built landscapes of high environmental, historic and ethnographic value with enormous cultural and tourist potential. The purpose of this article is to systematically describe the morphological features of the urban layout in the centres of the region, relating it to the different historical periods and highlighting the popular, ethnological and anthropological aspects in the notion of heritage.
