Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the remuneration of doctors under the National Health System. Their remuneration system is complex, presenting significant differences between Regional Health Services, consequence of the lack of coordination and integration. In the absence of information systems to assess the remuneration policies developed by the Autonomous Communities, it seems that neither productivity complement nor professional career have fulfilled the objectives for which they were designed. More research on the relationship between intrinsic motivation and pay for performance or quality is necessary.
