Abstract

The irruption of the internet and information and communication technologies has supposed a transformation in the way that people relate with others in current neoliberal society. From this proposal it is important that we reflect on the forms of control in virtual spaces. In this way, our paper approaches the topic of internet governance with the purpose of showing how the internet is regulated by negotiation between civil, governmental, and private organizations, but mercantilist discourses end up being imposed. Also, from this framework regulated by private organizations, we will analyze how control and surveillance are exerted in virtual spaces. These virtual platforms are like a sort of biopolitics that subject individuals through neoliberal subjectification processes.
