Abstract
Introduction: The aim of this study is to assess essential inequalities at birth, illness and death among male and women seeking to define essential functions for the species. Material and methods: We selected demographic data standards in Spain for the years 2007-2010, as well as morbidity/mortality parameters obtained from the natural Spanish population movement within several years. Results: We consider inequalities at birth between the number of men and women, their evolution during their fertile period, as well as gender differences in infant mortality, such as perinatal mortality, late fetal mortality, mortality caused by chromosomal abnormalities and their evolution in the prevalence of mental illness. Discussion: these results are analyzed against characteristic elements of human fertilization and reproduction and concludes pointing to the possibility that women play a major role for the survival of the species while male would higherly contribute to the ability of the human specie to mutate.
