Résumé

In the present study orthodontic population 's crowding is analized. A 300-patient sample (172 females, 128 males) from 8 up to 18 years of age was selected. Prevalence of skeletal and dental crowding in both dental arches was determined showing four severity levels. It was also analized lower arch cephalometric discrepancy and crowding in relation to skeletal class, tansversal width in both arches, mesiodistal sizes of upper and lower incisors, and curve of Spee's depth. Upper dental crowding was reported in two thirds of cases and lower dental crowding in 58.7% of the cases. Age, skeletal class, intercanine and intermolar widths, and mesiodistal incisor size were responsible for statistically significative crowding. Sex was poorly related, females had a higher frecuency and severity of upper arch crowding.
