Abstract
The general objective of this work was to analyze the relationship between objective insecurity and subjective insecurity. The specific objectives were: 1) to examine the relationship between homicidal violence and fear of crime; 2) analyze the relationship between homicidal violence and concern about insecurity; 3) examine the relationship between victimization and fear of crime; and 4) analyze the relationship between victimization and concern for insecurity. The study took into account data on homicide rates, victimization, fear of crime, and concern about insecurity from 18 Latin American countries, for the period 2010-2018. This information was extracted from the database of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the Latinobarómetro Corporation. The data were analyzed with the statistical program SPSS version 25.0. The only correlation found was between homicide rates and concern for insecurity.
