The increasing importance of bank prudential regulation in an era offinancial liberalization and intense competition, together with the lack ofempirical research on capital adequacy in the Spanish banking sector, shapethe motivation for this research. This paper examines the impact of thesolvency regulation on capital augmentations of banking institutions operatingin Spain.
