Résumé

In general terms, we can say that during the nearly four decades of Franco’s regime, the percentage of translated foreign literature that escaped from censorship was extremely low. Guareschi is one of the world's most translated Italian authors, and the series of ‘Don Camillo’ novels quickly became runaway bestsellers in Europe. Up to now, more than 20 million copies have been sold, and his books have been translated into more than fifty languages. In this study, we  focus on the attitude of Franco censorship towards the Spanish translations of ‘Don Camillo’ novels,  with the aim of assessing how far the censorship system was interested in allowing the reception of imported bestsellers, and what stance it adopted towards foreign literary works  which were economically profitable, even if sometimes ideologically inconvenient.
