Abstract

The starting point of this article is the novel The Leopard, by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. After studying the Spanish reception of the literary work, we will briefly discuss the movie of the same name based on Lampedusa's novel, by the famous neorealist director Luchino Visconti. Finally, we analyze the audio described version of the movie, carried out in 2006 by the ONCE (National Organization of Spanish blind people). Audio description involves a transfer from visual to verbal information. Our study focuses on the analysis of the visual elements that play an important role in the film, thanks to the way in which Visconti’s camera captures all the colours and details of the Sicilian sunlit landscape.  Such details constitute some of the most important elements to audio describe, in order to allow visually impaired people to access an essential dimension of the film.
