Abstract

The Arabic language has great influence over Spanish language and culture because of the Moorish occupation of the Iberian Peninsula during 800 years and the current immigration to Spain from Arabic countries. However, the teaching of this language over Spanish universities is not successful enough and the aim of this article is to say why and to propose possible solutions to this regarding the teaching of this language in the University of Granada. The main objectives of this research are giving the opinion of students of Arabic about the current teaching system and proving that improving the current teaching methods of Arabic is possible. Methodology: In order to carry out this research, the book which is currently used in this university, Al-Kitaab fii taʻallum al-ʻArabiyya, will be compared to other two books of Arabic by using the analysis of the first eight units of Al-Kitaab. In addition, the current situation of the teaching of Arabic will be explained and the possible mistakes of this methodology will be highlighted. This will be followed by a bunch of possible solutions such as the increase of hours of teaching or the establishment of an intensive course of Arabic.
