Resumen

In the framework of a Teaching Innovation Project of the University of Granada on the “Computer Architecture II” (ACII) subject on 5 th course in the 2008-09 academic year, we designed, purchased, assembled, installed and used a mini-cluster of computers aimed at scientific applications. In 2009-10, being the system already designed, the activity has been restated as installation and use of the cluster, having applied to the Lab Teaching Support Program for the purchase of additional hardware in order to exploit cluster performance (diskserver, InfiniBand network, etc). This contribution describes the method used to perform and assess the activity, the cluster designed by the students and its software configuration, as well as the outcome of opinion polls on the students involved, possible variations for future experience editions, and the conclusions achieved with this project.
