Abstract
A clinical case of ovine anaplasmosis was diagnosed in 2014 by theRuminant Clinical Service of the University of Zaragoza (SCRUM).Subsequently, it was decided to start a research to increase the knowledgeabout this not-well-known disease. In the present survey it was developed anexperimental infection with Anaplasma ovis performed in three free pathogenanimals with the objective of monitoring these animals to increase theknowledge about dynamic of infection and pathogenic aspects of ovineanaplasmosis. The experimental infection was carried out by inoculatingblood from infected animals with known bacterial concentration byquantitative PCR test (qPCR).A daily clinical examination wasperformed during two monthsandthisinformation was complemented with several laboratory test such ashematological analysis, blood smear stained with Giemsa and qPCR test. Allthese were done to measure evolution of hematologic parameters andbacterial blood concentration levels. The results obtained showed the development of the disease and that thiscan be transmitted by blood. Infected animals developed a severe anemiadue to inmunomediated hemolysis. qPCR test showed a relation betweenbacteria blood levels and anemia degree. The maximum bacteriaconcentration was about a month post infection. Subsequently, bacterialevels decline progressively in relation with recoveryofhematologicalparameters.
