Abstract

The glass from Emerita Augusta (Mérida, Badajoz), as other craft productions, reflects the quality of the commercial relationships in the Mediterranean Basin. In this paper, an archaeometric study of glass samples from several archaeological sites with different chronologies has been made in order to study the technological evolution of Roman glass from Emerita Augusta. The decay pathologies of the samples were also studied and related with the quality of the original glass. It has been observed that the glass composition has experienced an evolution to glasses with a higher content of alkaline oxides (Na2O, K2O), which present an advanced decay state
