Palynological, sedimentological, and stable isotope analyses performed in El Portalet sequence (Gállego River headwaters, Spanish Central Pyrenees) reflect the climate evolution and vegetational changes in the Central Pyrenean Range since Oxygen Isotope Stage 3 mid Holocene (ca.30.000-5000 yr B.P.) The results confirm the early déglaciation in the Pyrenees compared to northern European and other Alpine mountain ranges. A minor glacial readvance at about 20 ka coincided with the global Last Glacial Maximum. The new data illustrate similarities and differences ofclimate and vegetation evolution during the last déglaciation between the Mediterranean and the central and northern European mountain regions.
