Abstract
Objective: Research of child-to-parent violence indicate the risk factors associated withthe development and perpetuation of this type of violent behaviour and has been able todelve into the study of variables about family. In Chile, studies on this type of violenceare very scarce, therefore, this study has analysed the differences in exposure to violenceat home, affect-communication and criticism-rejection of parents and the child-parentviolence in Chilean adolescents who exert violence towards parents and those who do notexert this type of violence. The variables that predict this type of violence have also beenanalyzed. Method: The sample of this study consisted of 905 Chilean adolescents agedbetween 12 and 18 years. Results: The results indicate that adolescents who exert childto-parental violence, both towards the father and towards the mother, perceive lesscommunication and affection and greater criticism or rejection from their parents andpresent higher levels of exposure to violence at home, both in observation and invictimization, in comparison with those adolescents who do not exercise this type ofviolence. Finally, the perception of criticism-rejection by parents and victimization athome are predictors of child-parental violence exerted towards the father and towards themother. Conclusions: The importance of increase research on child-to-parent violence inthis country is highlighted, deepening the study of risk factors associated with this typeof violence.
