Résumé

The aim of this study was to identify differences in performance indicators in professional tennis players, according to gender and match outcome. The 16 matches corresponding to the round of 16 of the Australia Open 2019, both in male (n=16) and female categories (n=16), competing a total of 32 tennis players. The official game statistics were obtained from tournament website for the analyses. The results showed a greater importance of the variables related to the service in males. On the contrary, the variables related to the return were decisive in females. Concerning the match outcome, the winners of the men’s category showed a better performance in the service, baseline and net game. On the other hand, in the women’s category, both the serve and return stand out as determinant for the victory. The information obtained in this work allows us to establish reference values in main performance parameters that may be useful to set competition aims and assess tennis players’ performance.
