Resumen

Este trabajo consiste en un estudio generalizado del desarrollo del arte moderno nepalí en torno a los años 50, cuando el país comenzó un proceso de modernización  como consecuencia de su reapertura al mundo exterior y consiguiente relación con las culturas extranjeras. Durante la transición, tanto el cambio político producido por las nuevas ideas democráticas como los nuevos medios de comunicación y consumo contribuyeron a la creación de un nuevo Nepal, dividido entre lo moderno y lo tradicional. El objetivo de este estudio es el de subrayar que el arte moderno de Nepal se desarrolló a partir de su propia localidad, pero también teniendo en cuenta la influencia que sobre el arte nepalí han ejercido los procesos capitalistas y globalización cultural.
