Resumen

Several years before Cisneros had started his works on the Biblia Poliglota Complutensis, finished by 1517, Aldo Manutius had dreamed about a trilingual Bible, as soon at least as the edition of his Greek Psalterium, ca. 1496-1498. From this opus magnum, several times advertised but never actually printed – most probably because of economic issues – we only have two folia, two printing proofs believed to have been produced in 1501. This paper recollects and analyses the available testimonies on the trilingual Aldine, both by Aldus and other contemporary scholars, besides collating the text of the Greek column (Gen. 1.1-5) with the version printed in 1518. By doing so, it aims to evaluate the work’s editorial and philological process, in several moments between the last years of the fifteenth century and the final edition of the Greek Aldine Bible.
