Resumo

We performed a cross-sectional study to know the seroprevalence of canine leishmaniasis (CaL) in the province of Cadiz and to estimate the individual risk factors; we also estimated the incidence of human leishmaniasis by compiling all the reported cases. The diagnosis of CaL was performed using the analysis of the serum by the IFAT technique and considering 160 as the threshold title. To estimate the risk factors we applied a multivariate analysis by logistic regression. 37f6% of the dogs (37/98) had antibody titles . 80 and 31f6% (32/98) . 160, which represents the seroprevalence of CaL. Besides, 0f08 human leishmaniasis cases per 100,000 inhabitants occur each year in the province of Cadiz. Dogs that live in landlocked locations have a risk of CaL 10 times higher than those that live in coastal areas. In addition, being a female, sleeping indoors, having medium or long hair and weighing more than 25 kg act as factors of protection. To equality of the other factors, dogs with clinical signs compatible with CaL are almost 5 times more likely to have CaL than those that do not show these signs
