Abstract

The interest in knowing and assessing the changes in perception of body image is increasing. However, we still have not developed sufficiently objective methods for evaluation. Therefore, this work intends to assess the perception of body image and the use of healthy behaviours and habits in a group of students from the Faculty of Nursing in Melilla. A high percentage of participants choose anatomical figures framed in the range of normal weight, with women choosing more extreme figures than men, when they value their ideal image the one perceived by others. An interesting finding is the existence of unhealthy behaviours, such as usage of non-prescribed diets and purgatorial actions, which can cause a decrease in the quality of life and health. Nevertheless, significant interest in conducting physical activity and the acquisition of knowledge about healthy habits is manifested.
