Resumen
The Cognitive Interview (CI), a set of procedures based on established principles of psychology of memory and designed in response to a demand from law enforcement to enhance the memory of witnesses and victims, has proved effective in the study of accuracy of the testimony. However, that effectiveness does not appear in all investigations. After a literature review, we anticipated that the interviewer's profession (police and psychologist, the most common in the research) may be related to the differential efficacy and was incorporated as the independent variable. In the context of a broader experimental work, using a single-factor design with 9 interviewers (4 psychologists and 5 police officers) and, as interviewees, 120 students matched in age and gender who reported what they had seen once before in a fragment film. The dependent measures were total correct details and proportion of details relating to actions, persons and objects, and the number of errors. The data analysis shows that in the four categories of information, provide more information the subjects interviewed by psychologists, without a parallel increase in the number of errors. These results recommend further research on the requirements in the use of CI in forensic areas, taking into account that are in line with that reported in the literature that the CI is effective when the interviewers are psychologists
