Abstract
The initial biochemical lesión in the axonopathy induced by organophosp horus esters (OPIDN) is generally believed to be progressive inhibition of neurotoxic esterase (NTE). However, the nature and sequence of events which follow initiation (inhibition and aging of NTE) and precede clinical expression of axonal degeneraron is still unknown. In this work the different hypothesis on the development of OPIDN are revised, with special attention to biochemical changes involved in its pathogenesis. The authors report theirown results about the effects on energy metabolism in brain and sciatic nerve of hens treated with TOCP. The significance of extend our knowledgement of the development periodof OPIDN related toclinical application is emphatized.
