Abstract

The present doctoral thesis is made up by a compendium of articles through which personal learning environments (PLE, hereafter), dispositions towards critical thinking and motivation in unaccompanied foreign minors (UFM, hereafter) are examined. These are considered alongside the main skills required by teachers and educators with regards to socio-educational provision as a means to establishing hybrid learning models based on smart learning environments (SLE, hereafter). This will lead to an enrichening of the PLE of UFM in support of their full inclusion in society. In order to meet this aim, work was conducted according to three stages, with each stage being composed by one or more scientific publications. The first stage focused on analysing the characteristics of UFM, particularly in relation to their PLE, dispositions towards critical thinking and motivation. The second stage described the main skills possessed by teachers and educators responsible for the socio-educational provision of UFM at their schools and care homes. The third stage sought to describe the strategies used and potential of interventions that could be carried out within the SLE framework by teachers and educators responsible for the socio-educational provision of UFM, as a means to enrichening the PLE of this group and supporting their social and occupation inclusion in society.
