Résumé

Objective. Our objetive was to investigate the affectation of the temporomandibular joint in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. 72 patients with rheumatoid arthritis were studied and the findings are compared with in a control group of 26 healthy people with the same age and sex distribution. Methods. lt has been carried out with all of them: a clinical valuation, an exploration and a radiological study (simple temporomandibular joint X-rays: Schüller; oral orthopantomography and a simple X-rays of hands). Results. We have found a high clinical incidence in our patients (75%) with slight correlation to the physical exploration on temporomandibular joint (33.3%) and whose radiological repercusions is important and significant ( 41,7%). Clinical incidence has been of 23% in the control group, without mobility affectation and with radiological alterations in 15% of studied subjects. The most frequently radiological injuries found in such patients are: condyle malformations, marginal irregularities and erosions, condyle and joint eminency sclerosis and joint dishormony. Such morphological findings increase with long-term evolution of rheumatoid arthritis, as well as in most restrictive and severe illness cases (stages III-IV of Steinbrocker).
