Abstract

The History of Peace is the study of ideas, individuals, social organisations and campaigns related to the promotion of peace, the prevention of war and international confl icts. It involves knowledge of scientifi c schools and currents of thought, as well as a broad understanding of the philosophical, moral, religious, cultural and aesthetic traditions that are oriented towards peace. The term ‘peace history’ was offi cially coined in 1913 and has continued to develop as a discipline in universities thanks to the eff orts of many activists, academics and intellectuals. The history of peace faces challenges in the immediate future to continue spreading a message of hope, realism and commitment to the values of peace.
