Communicative competence in different cultural environments is a challenge for civil and military training. The objective of this research has been to analyze the communicative competence of the civil and military trainer, taking into account the verbal and non-verbal aspects, from the point of view of the students and teachers. Two evaluation instruments have been designed, validated and applied to a sample of 1,023 people (800 students (626 men/174 women; 519 military/281 civilians) and 223 teachers (167 men/56 women; 124 military/99 civilians) assigned to different military training centers and universities. In addition, some sociodemographic control variables such as gender, age, teaching experience, military/civil status or type of studies have been collected, in order to look for differences between these groups. Research and statistical analysis has been non-experimental, sectional, descriptive, inferential and correlational. The results show that communicative competence positively influences the attention paid in class by students. As well as, that women, civilians, anthe civilian graduate student body tend to have a higher degree of awareness, perception and knowledge about communicative competence in general. The results has been discussed with scientific literature. It is concluded that communicative competence is important for students, being outlined the verbal and non-verbal intercultural competence. Teachers show considerable awareness, knowledge and interest in communicative competence, but to a lesser degree when the intercultural factor is applied in the non-verbal aspect. Training in the development of communicative competence linked to intercultural factors is considered necessary for teachers in general, and the military in particular.
