¿Son los estudiantes de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria lo suficientemente activos durante el recreo?

Resumen

El recreo escolar es un espacio ideal para el incremento de la actividad física (AF). Sin embargo, existe un número limitado de estudios que hayan examinado los niveles de AF y el tiempo sedentario en los recreos, especialmente en España y en alumnado de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria (ESO). Por ello, el objetivo de este estudio fue analizar los niveles de AF y el tiempo sedentario de estudiantes de secundaria en los recreos, examinando posibles diferencias en función del género y curso académico. En este estudio descriptivo, correlacional y transversal participaron 159 adolescentes (Medad = 12.45±0.49 años; 50.30% chicos) de 1º y 2º de ESO. Estos cumplimentaron un cuestionario sobre los niveles de AF y tiempo sedentario en el recreo. Los resultados del estudio determinaron que el alumnado realizaba una media de 8.61 minutos de AF moderada-vigorosa (siendo este valor significativamente inferior en las chicas y en los estudiantes de 2º de ESO) y 5.40 minutos de tiempo sedentario (siendo este valor significativamente superior en las chicas y en los estudiantes de 2º de ESO). Un 42.1% cumplió con las recomendaciones de AF en los recreos. Además, se encontró una asociación positiva y significativa entre ser chica de 2º de ESO y no cumplir con dichas recomendaciones, así como ser chico de 1º de ESO y sí cumplir. Los resultados sugieren que la comunidad educativa debe diseñar programas escolares que incentiven la práctica de AF en el recreo, especialmente en las chicas y en los estudiantes de mayor edad.
