Lo que se esconde tras el título de una tesis doctoral. Análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo de los títulos de las tesis doctorales del Repositorio de Tesis Doctorales sobre Migraciones de la Universidad de Granada

Abstract

The title of a doctoral thesis is an essential part of it since it is responsible for identifying, designating and emphasizingits content, but the words that constitute them mayhave semantic implications that are not taken into account. In the field of migration studies, it may contribute, among others, to oversimplify complex realities or to essentialize the groups to which they refer. In this communication we have analysed different aspects of the titles of the theses contained in the Repository Theses on Migration of the University of Granada, such as names and designations which are made of people-groups of migrants, the demonyms,the various processes and contexts to which reference is made, issues related to gender, the type of study or the characteristics of these processes. As a conclusion, we can say that the elements of the titles do not always take into account the possible onsequences of usingcertain qualifiers, the function of gentile and place names or how representative they have about the content, among others.
