Resumen
Tobacco and alcohol use carry significant public health problems. Therefore, it is essential to detect its presence at an early age. General objective: To know the habits of tobacco and alcohol consumption in the population of 17 to 19 years of the populations of Huesca and Barbastro. A cross-sectional study for convenience was carried out, taking advantage of the ACWY Meningitis vaccination campaign in three health centers in Huesca and Barbastro. A self-made anonymous questionnaire was used. A descriptive and analytical study of the data obtained through the statistical package SPSS v.19 was carried out. The total sample was 68 subjects. The mean age was 18.04 years (SD: 0.68). Regarding tobacco consumption, 33.3% refer to smoking, with a mean age of 18.14 years (DT: 0.64). 36.4% state that they smoke daily. 100% affirm that tobacco is a health risk. 60% have tried to quit smoking in the last 12 months. Among smokers, 86.4% also consume alcohol. 74.1% (n = 40) reported alcohol intoxication in the last 12 months. Of the consumers, 35.2% (n = 19) expressed regrets and 88.9% (n = 48) stated that they knew the risks of consuming. In relation to the total population, there is no association between smoking and drinking alcohol. Analyzing the results of our study and comparing them with respect to the Spanish population, we can affirm that the results follow the same trend. The data on alcohol and tobacco consumption collect very high figures, like the data recorded in Spain. After analyzing the data, we conclude that our sample is comparable with the results of the Survey on drug use in secondary education in Spain (ESTUDES) 2017 of the spanish population.
