Zusammenfassung

Introduction: There is a high prevalence of vascular ulcers in the population, in part due to its progressive aging. Current scientific evidence agrees that the best treatment for this problem is compression therapy. For its realization there are several types of systems. The objective of this article is to find the latest scientific evidence on the types of compression therapy and their practical applicability both for the treatment of venous ulcer and the prevention of its recurrence. Methodology: A narrative review of the latest scientific evidence from journals indexed in the Cochrane Library, Pubmed, Cuiden and Medline databases was carried out. Results: Several types of compression systems have been found. Low elasticity bandages (or short stretch), high elasticity bandages (or long stretch), multi-component bandage systems, compression stockings, self-adjusting compression systems with velcro closure and intermittent pneumatic compression. Conclusion: Scientific evidence agrees that compression therapy is the treatment of choice in venous ulcers, but it must be accompanied by a program to prevent its recurrence with a correct evaluation and progressive evaluation. It improves the quality of life of patients, reduces healthcare costs and the workload generated by this pathology in healthcare systems.
