Abstract
Introduction: Organization (WHO) palliative care as “the approach that improves the quality of life of patients and families who face the problems associated with life-threatening diseases, through the prevention and relief of suffering , through early identification and impeccable evaluation and treatment of pain and other physical, psychosocial and spiritual problems ”. Objective: The objective is to know the latest scientific evidence on palliative care that nursing provides to terminal patients. Methodology: A narrative review of the latest scientific evidence from journals indexed in the Cochrane Library, Pubmed, Cuiden and Medline databases has been carried out. Results: The symptoms that need nursing care due to the discomfort and suffering they generate in the patient are mucositis, xerostomia, anorexia and cachexia, constipation, asthenia, nausea and vomiting, terminal dehydration, dyspnea, cough, hemoptysis, hiccups, premortem rales, psychiatric symptoms and care in agony in the period before death. Conclusion: Palliative care is essential in terminally ill patients. The nursing staff must provide the comfort that the patient needs, alleviating suffering and pain.
