Resumo

Introduction: It is known as cholesterol to fat that circulates through the blood and that in normal amounts is necessary for the proper functioning of our body. Some of it comes from the food we eat and some is made by the liver. It is Hypercholesterolemia when cholesterol is established between the levels of 240-250 mg/dl. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional narrative descriptive study conducted through a review bibliographic in the databases of Pubmed, Cochrane Library, Scielo, Cuiden. The keywords used were “hypercholesterolemia”, “types of cholesterol”, and “factors” combined with the Boléan AND and OR operators. Objectives: To know the types of cholesterol and the risks associated with hypercholesterolemia Change unhealthy habits to lower cholesterol as well as improve your health. Results: Cholesterol is present throughout the body forming cell membranes, participates in the synthesis of steroid hormones such as progesterone, testosterone, estradiol and cortisol, synthesis of some vitamins such as vitamin D and synthesis of bile acids that facilitate digestion and absorption of dietary fats. We find two types of cholesterol HDL or also called good cholesterol or LDL called bad cholesterol. Hypercholesterolemia can be prevented or improved by decreasing the amount of salt in meals, controlling arterial hypertension, avoiding sedentary lifestyle and exercising as well as decreasing or eliminating smoking and performing a correct diet. Conclusion: In cardiovascular prevention we find the control of parameters such as sugar, hypertension and hypercholesterolemia. The change in healthy lifestyle habits in patients with a high level of cholesterol plus the combination of appropriate drugs prevents the origin of certain cardiovascular diseases as well as decrease the level of cholesterol in blood.
