Résumé

Giant inguinal hernias are a demanding surgical problem, since the reintroduction of hernial contents into the abdominal cavity can sometimes cause an increase in intra-abdominal pressure. Various techniques have been described that decrease this risk, including the progressive pneumoperitoneum that we present below, as well as the use of botulinum toxin or the need for visceral resection. We present the case of a 50-year-old male patient with a giant bilateral inguinal hernia. We applied the use of progressive pneumoperitoneum and hernioplasty through an anterior inguinal approach and repair according to Rutkow-Robbins. This technique makes possible the successful treatment of giant inguinal hernias without the need for visceral resection.
