Resumo

This research aimed to analyze the quality of life and caries index of young schoolchildren in the seventh year of basic education in the city of Riobamba (Ecuador) through dental clinical observation in order to develop future holistic educational programs to promote oral health. The methodological design of this study was descriptive observational, cross-sectional, with a mixed approach. 380 students participated in this study. The techniques used were observation and survey, with its instruments, the Dental Clinical History and the HBSC 2014-Spain questionnaire, respectively. The results found showed a high DMFT community index, as well as a statistically significant relationship between the variables brushing frequency, DMFT index and educational level. It was concluded that the consumption of fruits and vegetables affected the DMFT index.
