Abstract

A research agenda can be understood as a set of studies in a specific area of knowledge that determines more specific levels of attention, even though they can be approached from different theoretical frameworks (Llinares, 2008). In this context, the article investigates the research agendas on language and culture by reviewing scientific papers. From a qualitative approach and by a documentary review, a corpus of 161 articles published between 2016 and 2021, retrieved from the Web of Science database, is analyzed. Through a documentary analysis process that included a phase of coding, grouping and thematic classification, it allowed the construction of categories. The results allowed the identification of four research agendas: 1) communicative competence 2) intercultural communication 3) socio-cultural dimension of the language and 4) language teaching models. Educational methodologies and resources based on social innovation constitute emerging research agendas for the educational field.
