Resumo

This research delves into the access and visibility of photographic documentation pertaining to the historical-artistic heritage of Andalusia within the context of the network society. Initially, a comprehensive examination of heritage photography is conducted, employing a conceptual, theoretical, and historical framework from the existing scientific literature. Through this approach, diverse theoretical perspectives are scrutinized, illuminating the manifold intrinsic values of photography, consequently facilitating an exploration of the historical progression of photography in 19th-century Andalusia, with particular emphasis on the most sought-after heritage themes. Subsequently, the study delves into the connection and application of photographic documentation in heritage, evaluating its relevance and utility for institutions and professionals engaged in this domain. Furthermore, an investigation is undertaken to ascertain the practices of record-keeping in heritage photography. A comparative analysis is carried out, evaluating the standards, regulations, guidelines, and parameters used in the document management of photographic images by national and international cultural institutions. After assessing said management, the research explores the accessibility and visibility of photography pertaining to the historical-artistic heritage of Andalusia, using EuropeanaPhotography as a benchmark within the European context. With this consideration in mind, the thesis conducts a critical evaluation of innovative strategies and document management models applied to heritage photography that are emerging in the network society. Finally, the study puts forth specific and compatible documentary principles tailored to the documentation of heritage photography. To this end, a novel model of documentary description and analysis is proposed, implemented within a document management database. This information retrieval system is designed to provide comprehensive insights into photography as an object, document, and content, with a particular focus on the historical-artistic aspects of the represented heritage material. By adopting a visual discourse of photography, the model offers an analytical and historical perspective, enriching our understanding of the cultural heritage. With reference to the aforementioned, this comprehensive doctoral research work is embodied in diverse scientific publications that expound on each of the various aspects analysed and studied, encompassing the outcomes and conclusions of this doctoral investigation. The thesis is structured into six main chapters, accompanied by a collection of appendices that provide complementary information to the doctoral research. Commencing with an introduction to photography and its incorporation and management in cultural institutions, the state of the art is presented through an exhaustive review of the bibliographic production by scholars in the field, as well as the impact on research activities and scientific dissemination through conferences, symposiums, exhibitions, workshops, and seminars dedicated to this subject. The third chapter encompasses methodological aspects, elucidating the objectives, hypotheses, inquiries, structure, and planning of the thesis. The results and conclusions derived from scientific articles and book chapters are contained within the fourth chapter, comprised of eight sub-chapters. Ultimately, the conclusions drawn from this research work substantiate the fulfilment of the thesis objectives, validating the proposed hypotheses, and providing answers to the research inquiries, particularly concerning photographic documentation on the monumental heritage of Andalusia.
