Abstract

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have transformed education, providing opportunities and improving the quality of education. However, the pandemic has brought irreversible changes, exposing weaknesses in the implementation of ICTs and the digital competences of the teachers. This thesis aims to investigate the use, training, and digital competences of teachers, as well as their opinions and challenges faced during the state of alarm. In order to achieve our objectives, a revision of the existing literature on ICTs in education was carried out, and the state of the art was analysed in two sections, beginning with the most relevant studies conducted on a national level regarding the use of ICTs during the pandemic, its impact and the challenges faced by teachers were examined, and concluding with international studies addressing the same aspects. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive study was conducted, involving a sample of 117 foreign language teachers in Andalusia, using a questionnaire divided into six dimensions. The questionnaire was validated, and the data were analysed using the IBM SPSS statistical program. The study concludes that there are still challenges regarding teachers' digital competence and training. The pandemic has accelerated the need to adapt to new technologies while highlighting disparities in access and digital competence. It is essential for educational institutions to promote continuous teacher training in digital competence and improve initial training in order to produce real change in the teaching and learning process. ICTs will continue to play a fundamental role in the postpandemic education system.
