Abstract

This analysis provide a overview of the “Jesus Nazareno” devotion in Granada and Eastern Andalusia during the 18th century. An essential part of this phenomenon is that of the Brotherhoods of the Sweet Name of Jesus, that became very relevant in the city of Granada and its area of influence after the Reconquista. This paper pretend to contribute the key of their origins and connection with the dominican friars analyzing phenomena such as devotional literature and Passion plays.
